I’ve been following Detective Conan for about 5 years now and I’m willing to follow it until it ends no matter how long it takes. I wont even bother talking about this shows mystery because it’s obviously great hands down. For any mystery fan this anime is definitely a must watch. But the reason I’m writing this review is not only to give my opinion on this show but also to send a message to everybody which is Detective Conan is not as it seems.
Many of us Detective Conan fans love the show for it’s mystery. Others love it because of Kaito Kid and it’s romance. But there’s something that brings the entire DC community together which is “The Black Organization”. If you think Detective Conan is all about a kid who solves cases then you’re wrong. First things first take out all the filler and this animes all about Shinichi also known as Conan hunting down the Black Organization with the help of the FBI and the CIA who have failed countless times in piercing this unknown group.
Many people’s lives have been scarred by the Org in many different ways. As the anime progresses you can see how badly these people have been hurt still hanging on to their love ones who have passed away. Which further brings up the question What is the Black Organization?
The Organization is vast, deep, unknown and mysterious. You don’t know the names of their members, their goals or even the name of their boss. These people attack as silent as they are deadly and this has been proven over and over again throughout the series. Once Shinichi miraculously survives the Organizations poison he hunts them down vigilantly teaming up with a Black Organization run-away scientist (Haibara) who had shrunk just as he did and the FBI.
One thing I like about Detective Conan is the way it leaves you hanging. You have mysterious Black Organization members like Vermouth who just leaves you blank with so many questions such as
Who is she Chris Vineyard or Sharon Vineyard?
Both? Played two lives?
Why does she help Shinichi?
Never ages?
Who’s side is she on?
Why is she Bosses favorite?
Defected CIA agent?
In a anime like Detective Conan a list like the one shown above is nothing special. Detective Conan still has a lot of questions left unanswered and that’s why I love it. Any character no matter how small can become a big in a matter of episodes. You have the boss of the organization who is obviously unknown but in a recent interview Gosho Aoyoma or the author of Detective Conan just stated that the boss is someone Haibara is close to. Meaning he/she/it was right under our noses the entire time and we still don’t know who he/she/it is.
I just love the moments when the FBI clash with the BO. A battle of wits leading to ambushes, intense planning,attacks,snipe-outs,car chases, etc these clashes have everything. In a anime like Detective Conan nothing is as it seems. A person who’s dead can be alive. A friend can become an enemy anything can happen. Basically whoever gets each other first wins it all. With Shinichi and company gaining a huge advantage in recent chapters it seems like the tables have turned and for once the FBI is winning the war. But in Detective Conan’s latest arc (Silent Clash) it seems like the BO’s back up and winning it.
Probably the only flaw in this series is it’s length take it out and I’d say it’s close to perfection. It was really hard writing a review on Detective Conan without giving out spoilers but I’m glad I was able to cough out a couple of things I wanted to say. A brilliant detective presumed dead hunting down an Organization for some payback I just love Detective Conan. Detective Conan is a great anime with insane plot twists and I recommend everyone to watch it.
